History

The Berlin Cemetery was founded in the mid-1800s by families settling in and around the rural farm community of Taegesville, WI, located about seven and a half miles northwest of Wausau on County Highway A.

With grave markers and monuments dating back over 150 years, the Berlin Cemetery is an ancestry map of several generations. The cemetery grounds have always been maintained by local families – many with ancestral ties to the area – and by new families who have moved into the community over time.

While not directly associated with a specific church or religious body, the cemetery served the burial needs of many local congregations and continues to do so today, though any individual or family may purchase a burial plot regardless of religious affiliation.

Today the Berlin Cemetery is cared for by the Berlin Cemetery Association, the non-profit entity which administers its ongoing perpetual care. The Board of Directors directly oversees all business related to short and long-term care of the cemetery.
